NO TELNET NEWS/LAND LINE LID THIS WEEK! :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: > SO, WHAT HAPPENED THE TELNET NEWS/LAND LINE LID FOR THIS WEEK (12-06-03)? FRIED! COOKED! BURNT! DESTROYED! You know, I was doing pretty good there this past week. The TN/LLLTW was actually in the can and could have been mailed out by last Tuesday evening when I decided to step out of the house to grab a bit of coffee with a few of my fellow hams at the BIG D! (otherwise known as Denny's Restaurant) over on Wolf Road in Colonie, a nice little heavily policed suburb just shy of the Albany megalopolis. I had left the computer on with instructions to shut off the monitor and to power down the hard drive pending my return. The two- hour visit with the guys went AOK...a couple of cups plus a really greasy and disgusting double cheeseburger but when I got back to the house and strolled over to the machine..OH OH! THE MICROSOFT BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH Oy Vay! I said! The MICROSOFT BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH indicated something to the effect that the computer could not write to drive C. And when I shifted the mouse, the hard drive began to go: Snicker Snak!..squeEe E-e-E-e Snicker Snak!..squEeE e-E-e-E Snicker Snak!..squeEe E-e-E-e This was an unknown sound to me and what's more.. This was not good. It appeared that the read-write arm was wacking back and forth across the disk and striking the inside shell of the drive casing, over and over again. Lost in this chaos was the complete newsletter, all the capture files, some e-mail plus some JPEG content shipped in by Don VK6DW. All lost! And don't you know this was the absolute first time I forgot to back up my files. What a bummer!!! Bad computer karma! Bad! But that's not all! Bad weather karma too! To the tune of maybe twelve to fourteen inches (snow, that is) which in turn stole any available free time over the weekend to try and recover enough material to mail out. Valuable TELNET NEWS/LAND LINE LID THIS WEEK time spent digging the car out from the storm on Saturday. Valuable TELNET NEWS/LAND LINE LID THIS WEEK time spent digging the car out from the snowplows on Sunday. So that's it! That's the story. I hope to have more on hand come this following weekend so stay tuned. More later.
